Tata Motors has made its popular Nexon subcompact SUV even more accessible to buyers with the introduction of new entry-level variants. The move comes in response to the launch of the Mahindra XUV 3XO, which entered the market at a competitive price point.

A New Entry Point for Petrol Buyers

The biggest news for petrolheads is the introduction of the new Smart (O) variant. Priced at ₹7.99 lakh (ex-showroom), it brings down the starting price of the Nexon petrol by a significant ₹16,000. This makes the Nexon a more compelling option for budget-minded buyers in the segment.

Diesel Now More Affordable Too

Previously, the diesel Nexon was only available from the mid-spec Pure variant onwards. Tata has addressed this by introducing two new diesel variants: Smart + and Smart + S. These variants start at ₹9.99 lakh and ₹10.59 lakh (ex-showroom) respectively, making the diesel Nexon a whole ₹1.10 lakh more affordable.

Price Cuts on Existing Variants

Tata Motors has also rationalized the pricing of the existing Smart + and Smart + S petrol variants. These variants have seen price reductions of ₹30,000 and ₹40,000 respectively, making them even more attractive options.

What to Expect in the New Variants

Details about the specific features offered in the new Smart (O) variant are awaited. However, considering its positioning, it will likely be a basic variant with essential features. The existing Smart + variant offers features like dual airbags, ABS with EBD, automatic climate control, and a touchscreen infotainment system. We can expect the new Smart + and Smart + S diesel variants to carry over these features from their petrol counterparts.

A Strategic Move to Stay Competitive

The introduction of these new variants is a strategic move by Tata Motors to maintain the Nexon’s competitiveness in the face of increasing competition in the subcompact SUV segment. The Nexon is known for its stylish design, strong safety credentials, and powerful engines, and with these new additions, it becomes an even more attractive proposition for a wider range of buyers.

Overall, the introduction of new entry-level variants and price cuts on existing ones make the Tata Nexon a more affordable and value-driven proposition than ever before.
