TATA.ev, the undisputed leader in India’s electric vehicle (EV) market, has announced a game-changing initiative to revolutionize the nation’s EV charging landscape. Building on its impressive track record of over 200,000 EV sales, TATA.ev is doubling down on its commitment to accessible and convenient EV ownership by aiming to more than double the number of charging points in India to a staggering 400,000 by 2027.

From Pioneering to Powering: TATA.ev’s Charging Evolution

Since 2019, TATA.ev has been a driving force behind India’s EV charging infrastructure development. Initially focusing on home charging solutions and strategically deploying public charging stations in early-adopter cities, TATA.ev laid the foundation for widespread EV adoption. In 2023, the launch of the ‘Open Collaboration’ framework marked a significant turning point, fostering partnerships with Charge Point Operators (CPOs) and Oil Marketing Companies (OMCs) to expand charging infrastructure, particularly along crucial highway routes. This collaborative approach has already yielded remarkable results, more than doubling the number of public charging points in India within just 15 months. TATA.ev’s current footprint includes over 150,000 private/home chargers, 2,500 community chargers, and 750 chargers at TATA dealerships across over 200 cities.

Open Collaboration 2.0: A Vision for the Future

With over 5 billion kilometers driven by EVs nationwide, TATA.ev has gained invaluable insights into the specific needs of EV users and the optimal placement of charging infrastructure. To capitalize on this knowledge and unlock the full potential of EVs in India, TATA.ev has unveiled ‘Open Collaboration 2.0’, an ambitious initiative designed to exponentially expand the charging ecosystem.

The core goal of Open Collaboration 2.0 is to more than double the existing charging infrastructure to over 400,000 charging points within the next two years. This will be achieved through strengthened collaborations with leading CPOs, focusing on the installation of 30,000 new public charging points. Critically, these charging stations will be compatible with all EV makes and models, ensuring widespread accessibility and fostering a thriving ecosystem for all stakeholders – EV users, CPOs, and infrastructure planners alike. This expansive network, encompassing public, community, and private/home chargers, will not only meet the growing demand for emission-free mobility but also accelerate EV adoption and propel India towards a greener, more sustainable future.

Key Highlights of TATA.ev’s Charging Infrastructure Expansion:

  • 400,000 Charging Points Nationwide by 2027: A massive expansion of the charging network to ensure convenient charging access for all EV users.
  • 30,000+ Public Chargers via Open Collaboration 2.0: Strategic partnerships with CPOs to deploy a substantial number of new public charging stations.
  • TATA.ev Verified Chargers: A new initiative to help EV owners easily locate reliable and high-quality charging options nearby through the iRA app, reducing charging anxiety.
  • 500+ TATA.ev Mega Chargers: Deployment of superfast charging stations in key cities and highways, offering priority access and services for TATA.ev customers.
  • Dedicated Charging Helpline: A 24/7 support service to address any charging-related queries and provide assistance to EV users.
  • Unified Payments Wallet: A seamless and convenient payment solution for charging, simplifying the user experience.

TATA.ev Mega Chargers: The Flagship of Open Collaboration 2.0

As a flagship initiative under Open Collaboration 2.0, TATA.ev is partnering with leading CPOs like Tata Power, ChargeZone, Statiq, and Zeon to establish a TATA.ev Mega Charger network. These state-of-the-art charging stations will offer superfast charging capabilities and exceptional reliability. In the first phase, TATA.ev aims to operationalize 500 Mega Chargers within two years, strategically located in key cities and along major highways. These Mega Chargers will feature:

  • Superfast Charging: Rapid charging capabilities to minimize downtime and get EV users back on the road quickly.
  • Four Charging Bays: Each Mega Charger station will have multiple bays to serve several EVs simultaneously.
  • Strategic Deployment: Placement along prominent EV user routes in cities and on highways to maximize accessibility.
  • Priority Access and Services: TATA.ev customers will enjoy priority access and exclusive services at Mega Charger locations.
  • Tariff Benefits: Special tariff rates for TATA.ev customers to further incentivize EV adoption.
  • Seamless Integration with iRA.ev App: Convenient access to all partner CPO chargers through a single platform.

A Charge Towards a Sustainable Future

Shailesh Chandra, Managing Director, Tata Motors Passenger Vehicles and Tata Passenger Electric Mobility, emphasized TATA.ev’s commitment to driving India’s EV revolution. “TATA.ev has been at the forefront of India’s EV revolution, not just by introducing world-class electric vehicles, but also by building a robust charging infrastructure nationwide,” Chandra stated. “To enable the exponential growth of EVs in India, we’ve launched ‘Open Collaboration 2.0’, aiming to expand the charging network to over 400,000 points in the next two years, in partnership with leading CPOs. This initiative will enhance the speed, reliability, and user experience of charging, while improving the viability of CPOs and facilitating their growth.” He further highlighted the introduction of TATA.ev Mega Chargers, Verified Chargers, a unified Charging Helpline, and a seamless payment solution, all aimed at enhancing the charging experience and addressing customer concerns.

With its ambitious charging infrastructure expansion plans and unwavering commitment to innovation, TATA.ev is not just electrifying vehicles; it’s electrifying the future of mobility in India.
